The Willy's provided a most memorable Thanksgiving weekend for both you and Jay!

Your article reminded me of our recent weekend trip to Morella, Spain, a hilltop village up a winding highway, where Tomas' grandfather was born. Following a traditional Catalan afternoon brunch, we climbed the steep, narrow streets towards the castle atop the mountain, built as a Catalan stronghold against the Moors who had conquered much of the Iberian peninsula during the 12th century.

Visitor entrance to the castle was through a monastery, where we collected a site map and trudged up stone steps to an enormous rose garden, enclosed with beautiful arches around the perimeter. We stopped for photos of the beautiful grounds, the surrounding mountains and the castle far above.

By chance, we noted a large commemorative relief panel carved into the wall of the monastery adjacent to the rose garden. Dated 1780 AD, the panel marked the founding of the monastery by none other than William Milian Moreno, a Catholic priest and very clearly Tomas' distant relative! Our tour guide confirmed Tomas' heritage and remarked that there to be many Milian family members who presently reside in Morella! It was quite an astonishing visit for both of us! I was delighted at the luck of being with Tomas on his first visit to his grandfather's hometown, and the accidental discovery of another clue to his heritage. aa66https://www.blogger.com/profile/14510489429577075178noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7762805374708307306.post-3849974442112675162012-11-29T16:59:13.336-05:002012-11-29T16:59:13.336-05:00Thanks so much Toni.
